Let's Talk about Expulsion and Suspension and the Role of Quality Improvement
As research has revealed, expulsion and suspension are stressful, negative experiences that can impact child outcomes. This session of Let’s Talk provides a review of that research and explores the dimensions of early childhood expulsions and suspensions, which include knowledge of child development, addressing implicit bias, and responding to trauma and the needs of children exposed to it. Also discussed is the role of quality improvement in decreasing and preventing expulsion supplemented by a specific example from the state of Arkansas.
